what we already have

Good morning!!! I have already written one long blog post this morning, it is telling you all about Donut Day! Here is the post....

I'm gonna skip straight into the passage today, if you want my daily life update click that link up there. 😉😊

Today's passage:
Genesis 22:1-14
Abraham’s Faith Confirmed
22 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad[a] and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”
6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide;[b] as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Ok so first of all I am so thankful that Jesus came so that we don't have to sacrifice things anymore. Seriously. Worship to me means singing, praying, focusing on Jesus, and to Abraham it meant killing something innocent and burning it. Ick.

Second thought, Abraham really loves the Lord. And really trusts the Lord. Even when his kid asks where their offering is he says "God will provide." How hard must that have been? To tell your son, who you're planning on killing and offering to God, "God will provide." How did he keep his composure? Seriously. I was not cut out for old testament life.

I trust God to provide... I mean, I say that He will provide... But this level of trust and stepping out in faith and obedience is extreme! Verse 9 and 10, man... They don't tell you about the emotional state of this situation, but you have to think about how much Isaac must have been freaking out, and Abraham must have just been sobbing. He was going to do it! Because God asked him to! And then, God provided a ram.

God will provide.

God will provide when you're in a desperate situation.

He will provide what you need. If He doesn't, then you didn't need it. Because He's not the type to leave you hanging.

Sometimes when you're at the end of your rope... $1.37 in your bank account, no food in your fridge, no gas in your car, no.... you get the idea.... God allows us to get into those situations for a few reasons I believe. First, to learn to trust even a fraction of the amount of Abraham. Second, to be able to bless us. He loves us. He likes to bless us! Third goes with Second, to allow others to be a blessing. Sometimes, maybe, He is teaching us to focus on what matters in life... it isn't the money, the amount of money you have saved, it's the people you have around you, its your family and friends. Sometimes the things we focus on need to be stripped away so that our focus can shift onto what actually matters. Sometimes we have nothing so that we can see that we already have everything.

God will provide... He has already provided.... just lift up your eyes and look!
